I’m a 24-year-old German living in Helsinki, Finland. Unlike all those people I’ve read about who do some great sea- and sailing-related stuff, I did not “start sailing with my parents when I was two years old”, “basically grew up at sea”, etc. In fact, I grew up in a boring small town the middle of Germany, far from any coast. For some reason I still got fascinated with sailboats from an early age, but was told that only the rich and fancy went sailing, thus it was beyond reach for me. So it remained a diffuse dream until I was 20, had moved to a bigger town and met someone who knew better…

WOW we are world’s apart but have the same dream. I am thinking about building a hybrid sailboat. Where the DC electric motor on the prop becomes a generator while under sail. I think additional energy can be gained by a cowl around the prop. Yes it would slow the boat down, but when your boat is your home you don’t enter it in a race!!
Good Luck
